ZOOS DESIGN

Conceptual Design of the Elephant Area: Immersive Habitats in Zoos by David Theming Works

Modern zoological habitat design goes beyond functionality and safety — it aims to recreate natural environments that promote animal well-being and educate visitors. In this context, David Theming Works presents its innovative conceptual design for the Elephant Area in a zoological park, covering over 3,000 m² and faithfully replicating the natural habitat of these majestic animals.
A Space That Respects the Elephants’ Natural Behavior
The project focuses on creating a spacious and stimulating environment where elephants can explore, interact, and cool off. A combination of rock formations, strategically placed vegetation, a large waterfall, and a central pool ensures that the animals enjoy a varied and enriching habitat while visitors observe their natural behaviors in an immersive setting.
Key Design Principles
  1. Layout:
The layout of the Elephant Area is designed to provide ample space and multiple levels for exploration and physical activity. The varied topography allows elephants to move freely and access different zones for resting, playing, or socializing.
  2. Rocks and Vegetation:
Rocks and plants are strategically positioned to offer areas for exploration, shelter, and shade. The rocks are large and stable enough to support the elephants, while carefully selected vegetation provides protection, comfort, and environmental enrichment.
  3. Waterfall and Pool:
A large waterfall is located at the center of the area, flowing into a spacious pool where elephants can cool off during warmer seasons. The pool allows the animals to fully submerge themselves if they choose, supporting natural behaviors and promoting both physical and mental well-being.
Innovation and Animal Welfare
This project demonstrates David Theming Works’ commitment to combining aesthetic design, functionality, and respect for wildlife. Every element, from the rocks to the water features, has been carefully planned to create a safe and enriched habitat, where elephants can display natural behaviors and visitors gain an educational and immersive experience.
