Quizygolf Marbella: Minigolf Transformed into an Artistic Experience — The Visionary Design of David Theming Works
When Quizygolf Marbella opened its doors in 2022, many visitors discovered more than just a simple minigolf course by the seafront. They found a themed, immersive, and surprisingly creative space—a proposal that broke away from traditional minigolf to turn it into a sensory experience. Behind this transformation was the work of David Theming Works, one of the most renowned themed minigolf design studios on the international scene.
This article explores how Quizygolf was conceived, what the creative process was like, and what David Theming Works contributed to turning a simple sport into a standout tourist attraction on the Costa del Sol.

A New Concept for Marbella: Minigolf as an Artistic Experience
Before diving into the design, it’s important to understand the concept behind the project. Quizygolf did not want to be “just another minigolf”—it wanted to be a space with its own personality, where every hole told a story, and where visitors moved through reimagined landscapes inspired by Marbella, the Costa del Sol, and Mediterranean culture.
This presented a clear creative challenge:
How can a short sports course be transformed into an appealing themed walk for families, friends, tourists, and casual players?
The answer: specialized design, professional theming, and a perfect balance between fantasy, aesthetics, and playability.
That is precisely what David Theming Works contributed.

The Role of David Theming Works in Developing Quizygolf
1. Transforming a Classic Sport into a Narrative Environment
David Theming Works is known for designing water attractions, theme parks, leisure sets, and immersive environments. Their mission in Quizygolf was to reinterpret minigolf as a sequence of themed scenes.
To achieve this, their team:
• Analyzed Marbella’s visual identity: sea, sun, leisure, warm colors, Mediterranean architecture.
• Researched which elements could represent the local essence and integrate naturally into each hole.
• Designed structures, obstacles, and scenic elements that were both aesthetically and functionally coherent.
The result was a minigolf where each hole is a visual micro-story.

2. Creating the Themed Elements: Aesthetics, Color, and Materials
David Theming Works developed:
✔ Customized scenography
Featuring curved shapes, coastal references, abstract designs, and elements inspired by Marbella life—from local festivities to maritime architecture.
✔ Obstacles and figures designed “ad hoc”
Nothing is purchased or standard; every piece was created specifically to match the story of each hole.
✔ Mediterranean color palettes
Deep blues, tropical greens, sandy tones, vibrant magentas… all selected to create a visually engaging course ideal for photos and a stimulating experience.
✔ A dynamic, contoured aesthetic
While other minigolfs are predictable, Quizygolf features soft curves, striking volumes, and “fantasy paths” that make each hole memorable and unique.

This minigolf park design allowed the holes to be:
• visually appealing
• challenging yet fluid
• suitable for both children and adults
• compatible with classic minigolf rules while allowing alternative modes
The integration between theme + sport was one of the project’s great achievements.

4. Creating Two Atmospheres: Indoor and Outdoor
The course includes:
9 outdoor holes with open landscapes, natural light, and decorations harmonized with the seafront promenade.
6 indoor holes designed with a more controlled environment, intensified colors, and a more “fantastical” atmosphere.
The indoor section allowed David Theming Works to design bolder scenes thanks to artificial lighting and greater control over the visual environment.

5. Visitor Experience: Photographic Walkthroughs
Another key design objective was to make Quizygolf an “Instagrammable” space.
For this reason, the themed elements were created to:
• generate photo spots
• look appealing from multiple angles
• maintain visual coherence even in the smallest details
Thus, the minigolf became an artistic stroll where both adults and children discover eye-catching corners.

Game Modes: Design Adapted for Different Experiences
David Theming Works’ design needed to support four gameplay modes:
🔹 1. Classic Minigolf
Traditional obstacles but with exclusive aesthetics.
🔹 2. Strategic Quizygolf
Obstacles designed to serve as advantages if used with precision.
🔹 3. QuizyCity
Hole + cultural question about Marbella.
The design needed to allow space for integrated signage and information panels.
🔹 4. QuizyCrazy
The most playful mode: creative challenges, unusual passages, and unexpected ball trajectories.
Each mode directly influenced the design of every hole and its elements.

A Minigolf That Became a Tourist Attraction
Thanks to thematic design, Quizygolf became:
• an ideal family plan
• an attraction for promenade tourists
• a space for events, birthdays, and groups
• a unique visual experience in Marbella
Visitor reviews highlight that the park feels “new, creative, photogenic, and fun”—something uncommon in traditional minigolfs.
And although engineering, assembly, and operations involve several companies, the park’s aesthetic identity clearly bears the signature of David Theming Works: color, imagination, visual coherence, and an implicit narrative in every route.

Conclusion: David Theming Works Turned Quizygolf into a Hybrid Between Art, Leisure, and Sport
Quizygolf Marbella is not just another minigolf—it is a fusion of themed architecture, artistic creativity, and sports design.
The contribution of David Theming Works was key to:
• giving the park its visual identity
• organizing a coherent and attractive course
• creating unique attention-grabbing elements
• combining aesthetics and functionality
• transforming a simple sport into a memorable experience
Thanks to this design, the park has established itself as a modern and family-friendly attraction on Marbella’s seafront since its inauguration in 2022.
